The site: As a rural exception site it was earmarked for affordable housing. The parish council supported the scheme.

The scheme: The development is essential for young people in the village where homes can top the £1 million mark. Keeping young families in the village keeps the school open and provides staff for local employers.

Features: This scheme was completed in 19 months – a time which, the housing association claims, makes it the fastest rural affordable new build from concept to completion in England. It is built with locally sourced materials so it blends in with the village. The association also agreed to provide street lighting between the development and the rest of the village.

Affordability: Purchase price for the shared owndership is £77,500 for a 50 per cent share plus a monthly rent of £177.60 and service charge of £6.
